The Monthly event held on 24th September was about “Opening the Doors to OD.” The event was conceptualized to explore whether Organisation Development was a science or an art andwhether in today’s context, it mattered at all. On a very wet Thursday, in the thick of the Puja holidays, more than 100 interested people participated. Mr. Ashok Malhotra, Mr. V. Kartikeyan and Ms Sharbori Gomes were the facilitators for this educative programme. They are all senior practitioners who have come together in the IAOD in Sumedhas.

After a brief introduction to the various approaches and instruments in OD, the audience was
asked to split into smaller groups. They were asked to present the one dilemma or question
related to OD that their group thought was critical. Most groups had several dilemmas. The
facilitators then culled out the important themes emerging from the presentations. These included the questions like “Was OD as we knew it dead”? “How to practice this when return on Investments seems to be the only parameter?”

Some of the suggestions which emerged from the interactions were that “Reflecting and
changing rather than reacting and being a recipient” and “Emphasising on the oneness and
affiliations in an organization rather than the sameness” are some of the ways in which OD can be enhanced.
