It is a center of excellence for those who are in search of education, training or professional services in the field of human resources.
 
Established in 1991 by the National HRD Network, the Academy of Human Resource Development is a center for Research, Education, Training and Professional Services in the field of HRD by generating Knowledge and disseminating the same to all those interested in the HRD profession.
 
The academy conducts long-term distance education and short-term training programs to develop HRD facilitators. Its research activities aim at discovering new ways of developing people in organised and non-formal settings.
 
A Doctoral level education program in HRD, jointly with XLRI, Jamshedpur is under consideration. This program is meant for HRD professionals already employed to enroll on a part-time basis as well as for fresh post-graduates to enroll on a full time basis.
The Academy intends to have a data bank on HRD profiles and practices. Largely HRD professionals manage the Academy and National HRD Network, at present, in honorary capacity out of their interest in this field.
